Festas na Rua

Between September 6 and 21, there’ll be musical performances in green spaces and on open-air stages, featuring unique shows with free admission.
This year’s programme gets underway in Vale do Silêncio, with two great concerts. On Saturday, September 6, Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra will bring great musical moments from the history of cinema, as well as masterpieces by Verdi, Wagner and Johann Strauss II. The concert will be conducted by Pedro Neves. The next day, MOMENTUM – from the Valley to the Moon, a show by Fernando Pereira & The New Age Band, that will combine performance, humour, dance, poetry and images.
The first jazz concert at Festas will take place at Alfarrobeira Palace garden (São Domingos de Benfica) on September 11, with the Funchal Jazz Orchestra and the Madeira guitar duo Mano a Mano, in a performance featuring music from the latter’s ten-year career. On September 13, the garden of Palácio Pimenta will be the setting for the Hot Clube de Portugal Orchestra’s concert, alongside celebrated American saxophonist John O’Gallagher.
A cinema screen will be set up on the Escadinhas do Mercado do Forno do Tijolo for this year’s edition of Cinema no Estendal. This is a project which celebrates neighbourhood life and the art of the short film, with open-air film screenings on September 12 and 13. The official opening of the Let’s Go Macau! programme will be on September 17, from 9 pm, with Cuca Roseta’s performance, a drone display, and fireworks over the Tagus. This celebration of cultures will run until September 21, at Terreiro do Paço, in an initiative organised by the Macau Government Tourism Office.
