Peter and the Wolf

Once upon a time there was a fearless boy named Peter and a hungry wolf who fell into a trap. Also participating in this story are a grandfather, a bird, a cat, a duck, and a group of hunters. For didactic purposes, each character is assigned different instruments in the orchestra. Prokofiev premiered this creation in 1936, in a Moscow theater, and it has spread around the world to teach successive generations of listeners to distinguish the timbres of the violin, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, horn, tympanum, and bass drum. In this concert, the musicians also tell us about a classic of Brazilian children’s literature. Chapeuzinho Amarelo, written by Chico Buarque de Holanda in 1970, tells about a little girl who is afraid of fear, “O Lobo”. But before all this, and to whet our appetite, we will hear a symphony by Haydn, “The Hunt”.
