Jupiter and the Transfigured Night

The world is constantly changing. No matter how unshakeable everything around us seems, there is always a deep wave that creates tension and forces change. Exhaustion then becomes a reason for inspiration; it dismantles routines and awakens alternative paths. The two musical works that come together in this programme are the result of this restlessness. The monumentality of Jupiter – Mozart’s last symphony – breaks with classical tradition and anticipates solutions that influenced Beethoven and the Romantic composers. A century later, in 1899, Schoenberg dared to make the transition between Romanticism and the modernist tendencies of the fin de siècle. To do so, he used a poem in which love transforms the agony of pain into optimism and overcoming.
