Metropolitana’s anniversary

Two concerts to celebrate the Aniversário da Metropolitana (Anniversary of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra). The first one, at 12 pm, is a performance by Metropolitana Big Band, as this academic year, it is one of the programmes included in the training plan of the Metropolitana Professional School.

For the second one, at 7 pm, Joana Carneiro and Metropolitana meet again on a festive day: the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra performs an orchestral suite in which the names of the planets are presented as astral messengers. Alan Leo’s book The Art of Synthesis inspired Gustav Holst, who in 1916 recreated the idea that the planets of the solar system influence human personality traits. At the end of this programme, and in the turn of O Místico (Neptune), place is given to the planet Earth. The symphonic poem Terramoto de Lisboa (Lisbon Earthquake), by Armando José Fernandes, evokes the tragedy of 1755.
