Sexteto Jazz de Lisboa

The Sexteto de Jazz de Lisboa (Lisbon Jazz Sextet) celebrates its 40th anniversary with a concert at Tivoli BBVA Theater. In 1984, the Lisbon Jazz Sextet consisted of Mário Laginha (piano), Mário Barreiros (drums), Pedro Barreiros (double bass), Tomás Pimentel (trumpet), Edgar Caramelo (saxophone), and Jorge Reis (saxophone). Four years later, they released Ao Encontro, featuring compositions by Laginha and Pimentel.

Many shows and more than two decades later, the group is renewed. The early death of saxophonist Jorge Reis led Ricardo Toscano and the also young bassist Francisco Brito to join this collective, which is, for this reason, the living history of jazz in Portugal.
