Magical Garden

The iconic and recently renovated Jardim Botânico Tropical is hosting the latest immersive and interactive project by Portuguese studio OCUBO. Magical Garden offers a tour around the world, both geographically and temporally, along an itinerary spanning more than one kilometer, bolstering the audience’s contact with botany and nature by means of a sensorial nocturnal experience.

Magical Garden consists of an itinerary that highlights some of the tropical botanical species showcased in the garden and surprises visitors with several light installations. Featuring over 300 lanterns and thousands of LED lamps, as well as holograms, light sculptures and even interactive experiences, this is the first such event in Portugal. Along the path, punctuated by various themed sound environments, visitors will see dinosaurs and several luminous wild animals, such as elephants, tigers, and leopards. A video mapping show will be projected on the facade of Palácio dos Condes da Calheta, featuring content about the species in the garden’s herbarium.
