Open Conventos

Another edition of Open Conventos is taking place, organized by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Lisbon City Council and the Patriarchate of Lisbon (Quo Vadis). Dozens of churches and former convent spaces open their doors for visits and guided tours that reveal their history and their heritage.

This year’s theme evokes the founder of Misericórdias with the question: 500 Years Later — Where Does the Legacy of Queen Leonor Live On? Queen Leonor left an indelible mark on the history of Portugal, transforming faith into service and the Christian ideal into concrete works of mercy. Her values of humanism and care echoed through countless convents and monasteries that shaped the city of Lisbon, weaving a vast network of prayer, hospitality, education and aid to the most vulnerable.

Today, many of these historic spaces — such as the Convent of the Cardaes, the National Tile Museum, or the Patriarchal Curia — serve new purposes but continue to bear witness to this living heritage. Open Conventos 2025 celebrates Queen Leonor’s legacy that remains relevant and continues to inspire Lisbon.
