Lisbon Under Stars

Lisbon Under Stars is a 45-minute sensory experience, where the public is invited to experience the show from various angles and perspectives within the space of the Carmo ruins. Narrated by Catarina Furtado, the show reveals, in a virtual environment, some of the most relevant events in the history of the city and the country. The 1755 earthquake or a voyage in a caravel of the discoveries are some of the historical moments of this “immersive event”.

For the realization of this project, OCUBO is counting on the special participation of musicians Mariza, Paulo Marinho and Teresa Salgueiro, Tocá Rufar, Lisboa Cantat Chamber Choir and GNR’s Chamber Orchestra, by choreographer Clara Andermatt and the National Ballet Company, and also artists Add Fuel, Daniel Eime and The Super Van (Vanessa Teodoro).

Also part of this virtual immersive experience are themes from great names in Portuguese music, such as Amália Rodrigues, José Afonso, Madredeus or Salvador Sobral. In 2018, Lisbon Under Stars was distinguished with the award for best cultural event at the Bea World Best Event Awards and with the Gold A ‘Design Award (2018-2019).

Taking into account the directives of the Directorate-General for Health to safeguard the public and professionals, there is a set of health rules that are strictly enforced in the space. Unlike previous events, the public will not be able to move freely through the Convento do Carmo Church’s ruins, now passing at a regulatory two-meters distance with a maximum capacity of 200 fixed places.

Part of the profits revert to social causes through Associação Corações com Coroa and Fundação Amália.
