Il Pomo d’Oro

Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is one of Monteverdi’s compositions associated with the origins of post-Renaissance ballet and opera. Premiered during the Venetian Carnival of 1624, it tells of the passion between a Christian knight and a Muslim warrior. A fascinating dive by the Il Pomo d’Oro ensemble into the great works of the Baroque period, under the direction of Francesco Corti.

The semi-staged concert format, devised by the Anagoor collective, evokes the lost original choreography, in a dialogue between the musical dramaturgy and the portrayal of the unequal status of women at the time.
