Sélébéyone in Wolof, means a crossroads where entities converge, transforming into the unknown, while xaybu embodies the mystical Islamic concept of al-Ghaib. Sélébéyone builds off of Steve Lehman’s groundbreaking work with spectral harmony and novel rhythmic structures to create an electrifying new model for improvised music synthesis, combining elements of underground hip-hop, modern jazz, and live electronic music. Throughout their latest album, Xaybu: The Unseen, they skillfully explore spirituality and mysticism within the realm of experimental music.
