Open House

Open House returns to Lisbon to unveil the architectures caused by the city’s transitions. Under the theme Hybrid Designs for Transitional Spaces, this edition’s program is designed by the pair of sociologist Sandra Marques Pereira and architect Alexandre Marques Pereira.

Change is intrinsic to cities and many of the buildings adapt to the needs of their time. Looking at transition as a process that frames change and understanding the impact it has on architecture are the questions that drive the 13th Open House Lisboa.

The programme offers free visits and walks around the city alongside those who study, design and build Lisbon, including in English. Geared towards accessibility, tactile sensory tours for blind and partially sighted people and in Portuguese Sign Language are back.

There are many spaces to discover, including the LNEC campus – National Civil Engineering Laboratory; Santa Clara 1728, a 17th century mansion converted into a hotel with a project by architect Manuel Aires Mateus; the religious temple Centro Ismaili and the Lisbon Drainage Plan, with a visit to the excavation of the first tunnel connecting Monsanto-Santa Apolónia.
