Rui Chafes
I Believe in Everything

In a white room, a set of new sculptures in black iron rise like shadows that share the negative space with us, dancing to the sound of the wind or of the battle. There, one emerges from the protective half-light to face the first dawn, the violent revelation of morning capable of changing lives. The path lies beyond language and words, beyond thought. Between faith and emptiness, there remains the paradoxical conviction of those who believe in everything and nothing.
Acredito em Tudo (I Believe in Everything), portuguese sculptor Rui Chafes’s latest exhibition at Galeria Filomena Soares, recaptures, beneath the solidity and resistance of iron, the inevitable force of sculpture as a gesture of contraction, crystallization and mystery.
