Rita Sobral Campos

In what is her first exhibition in Lisbon since 2008, Rita Sobral Campos, who lives and works in New York, presents four sculptures, four engravings and a poster. Since the artist develops ways to present literary texts and reports through alternative formats to the traditional novel, her projects tend to evolve and materialize according to the needs of these same texts, be it film, works on paper, impressions or the occasional performative play. Rita Sobral Campos makes use of anachronistic forms and absurd writing, which enables her characters to subvert conventional wisdom, questioning social norms, group ethics and prejudices. Thus, the stories created by the artist challenge hierarchies, complicate notions of gender, confuse frontiers and the laws of nature.
