Giselle

The internationally renowned South African choreographer Dada Masilo presents her intrepid version of the iconic classic Giselle. Masilo’s Giselle takes place in a busy South African village and tells the story of a naive peasant woman who is thrown into a world of betrayal and shame when her lover rejects her. Scorned by her family and killed by grief, Giselle returns from the dead as a supernatural being looking for revenge. Playing the main character, Masilo brings her breathtaking, frantic style to the stage, combining ballet with contemporary dance and traditional Tswana moves. The beautiful music was created by South African composer Philip Miller, who combines classical music with African percussion and voice. This is Giselle, but not as you know it.
