Red Lines with Landscapes: Portugal is the result of Evan Roth’s work with the organization Artangel, in which he started exploring underwater connections between continents. The US artist has been using infrared cameras to film coastal locations where cross-oceanic data cables begin, and now he presents the films he has produced in Portugal. These films are placed in confrontation with the current scenery of various locations along the Portuguese coast, using late 19th-century landscape paintings from the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Museu do Chiado collection. Curated by Delfim Sardo, this exhibition is part of the Reação em Cadeia/Chain Reaction cycle, which invites artists to select the peers who will succeed them at Fidelidade Arte (Lisbon) and Culturgest (Porto). Red Lines with Landscapes: Portugal is also a web project that can be accessed anywhere in the world via an Internet connection, allowing the public to reproduce the artist’s moving landscapes in their electronic devices.
