Divino Sospiro

With this programme, the Divino Sospiro orchestra proposes a perspective on the production and circulation of Opera, Serenade, and Oratorio, possibly the two most frequent musical genres in Portugal during the 18th century, focusing on the contribution of this nation and suggesting a parallel journey, divided into two parts by the main stages of aesthetic-musical affirmation that developed in Europe and particularly in Portugal, exemplified by authors who were fundamental in determining the path and affirmation of Baroque musical language, leading to what would become the Classical style.

The result is a framework rich in points of contact but not devoid of traces of originality and extravagance. We confront a vision of Europe through the filter of this cosmopolitanism, which has always been a sharp and peculiar interpretive key in the socio-political and cultural history of Portugal, making this country one of the most identifiable places in what we now call the European cultural homeland.
