Classical myths, affections and sexualities
This exhibition, curated by André Murraças, takes visitors on a journey to the Greco-Roman world, where the gods loved freely and there was no need to keep affections hidden in the closet.
This temporary installation, incorporated in the Museum of Lisbon – Roman Theatre’s permanent exhibition, tells stories of love and desire between people of the same sex – narratives that, far from being taboo, were part of everyday life and the mythology of Classical Antiquity, and which encourage reflection on how we look at love, identity and cultural memory.
The exhibition is part of the project The Museum Out of the Closet, which started in September 2024 at Casa Fernando Pessoa.
