Queer Lisboa
2025
The 29th edition of Queer Lisboa presents a vast programme at Cinema São Jorge, featuring recent films that reflect queer culture. The festival opens with the erotic thriller Plainclothes, by Carmen Emmi, in which a police officer falls in love with a target.
Among the films out of competition, highlights include I’m Your Venus, a documentary that rediscovers the figure of Venus Xtravaganza, a trans woman and iconic figure of the New York ballroom scene, murdered in 1988; and Peter Hujar’s Day, the latest film by Ira Sachs, a biographical work centered on one of the most important figures in the downtown New York cultural scene of the 1970s and 1980s, Peter Hujar. Another highlight is the screening, at Cinemateca, of a retrospective honoring one of the pioneers of French queer cinema, Lionel Soukaz.
