Pierre Boulez Cycle
Pli selon Pli is Pierre Boulez’s longest piece and one of the great masterpieces he bequeathed to the world. It will be performed in this free concert as part of the cycle dedicated to the French composer. Composed between 1957 and 1962, this ambitious creation for soprano and orchestra, based on poems by Stéphane Mallarmé, is a prime example of Boulez’s prodigious creativity. In this performance of Pli selon Pli, the Gulbenkian Orchestra is conducted by Pedro Amaral and features the voice of Camila Mandillo, a young up-and-coming soprano.
