Whitewashing

Usually, “whitewashing” is the fact of having white actors and actresses play the role of racialized characters (real or fictional). Here, Rébecca Chaillon appropriates this term to address the issue of skin whitening. With Aurore Déon, on the tracks of the piece Carte Noire nommée Désir, they explore the ambiguous relations between the assignment to be a cleaning woman in the white society and the care of oneself, for a black woman.
