Wasted Rita
The desperation of the desperate...

The desperation of the desperate desperately despairing for this desperation to heal depicts the social, cultural and political context within which it was created. Transposing the despair felt by the artist when faced with the housing crisis in Lisbon, in addition to the challenge of finding herself in the middle of a creation process, Wasted Rita invites us into a personal experience that in turn portrays an increasingly universal reality.
To deal with the enormous pressure of being evicted from her home, the artist found refuge in reality shows and influencer culture, which she assimilates as forms of escapism, as well as objects of study and fascination: indicators of a human nature expressed within the context of an increasingly polarized and alienated contemporaneity.
Through her unique aesthetic and a critical and remarkably confessional perspective that explores her love-hate relationship with life and the world, the artist confronts us with her fears, anxieties, frustrations and collisions with the absurd, presenting works in usual formats like drawings, paintings and LED installations, alongside works in new mediums like sculptures created using 3D printing.
The exhibition also encompasses an immersive virtual reality experience, a first in the artist’s body of work, transporting us to an idyllic atmosphere that eventually begins to reveal imperfections, plunging us into a confrontation with reality
