João Artur da Silva

The last living founder of the group Os Surrealistas, created in 1949 by artists such as Mário Cesariny and Cruzeiro Seixas, João Artur da Silva built a discreet yet remarkable career between Portugal, the United Kingdom and Canada, where he has lived for several decades.

The exhibition that brings together a unique and significant selection of works by the remarkable Portuguese artist, marks his 97th birthday, celebrated on October 5, and extends the tribute initiated at St. Julian’s School (Carcavelos), which hosts the first solo exhibition dedicated to their former student, João Artur da Silva.

At Perve Galeria, the exhibition gains new breadth and scope with the presentation of recent, many previously unseen works, highlighting the creative vitality of an artist in constant reinvention.
