IndieLisboa 2023

From April 27 to May 7, in its 20th edition, IndieLisboa will once again showcase a handful of films, some recent, others not quite as much, from new talents and renowned filmmakers, concerts, conversations, special sessions and a program dedicated to children and young people – IndieJúnior.

Highlights from the program include a retrospective, at the Cinemateca Portuguesa, dedicated to the work of Jan Švankmajer, a tribute to the surrealist master of animation, in stop motion with puppets.

In the section Director’s Cut, three feature films stand out: A Rainha Diaba, a restored version of the film by António Carlos da Fontoura (1974), centered on a queer character who controls a drug trafficking network; Giuseppe Boccassini’s Ragtag, a chronological collage based on 310 American noir films from the early 1940s to the late 1950s; and Jeune Cinema, by Yves-Marie Mahé, an archival documentary about a forgotten film festival that took place in Hyères between 1965 and 1983.

The meeting between music and cinema takes place in the IndieMusic section, which proposes a program without borders, where artists and sounds from different countries are presented.

In the Boca do Inferno section, where taboos are broken and the most disconcerting Indie films are programmed, the highlight is Pearl, the most recent film by Ti West.
