Gabriela Albergaria

A Natureza Detesta Linhas Retas (Nature Hates Straight Lines) is Gabriela Albergaria’s first retrospective exhibition. Curated by Delfim Sardo, the exhibition follows the various stages in the artist’s journey and showcases her work over the past 16 years. Since the 1990s Gabriela Albergaria has been paying special attention to the landscape and nature acculturation relations that have been gradually sedimented by migratory processes and globalization. Using several media, such as sculpture, installations, photography and drawing, Albergaria has been building up a systematic reflection on issues such as the human influence on landscape transformation processes, the modification of ecosystems through the importation of non-native plant species, or the history of nature domestication as reflected in 18th-century botanic gardens. Included in the Lisbon European Green Capital program, this exhibition brings together never-before-seen and previously showcased works.
