Festa. Fúria. Femina.

Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento’s contemporary art collection is mostly made up of works by Portuguese artists. Starting in 1986, it brings together several representative works of the Portuguese art scene in the 80s, the 90s, and the early 21st century.  The collection, which makes it possible to discover the works of 61 Portuguese artists from various generations, spans more than three decades. By way of celebration, MAAT hosts the exhibition Festa. Fúria. Femina / Festivity. Fury. Femina – Works from the FLAD Collection. Curated by António Pinto Ribeiro and Sandra Vieira Jürgens, this is the largest show ever produced from the Foundation’s collection. From a collection comprising about 1,000 drawings, paintings, photos and sculptures, the curators have selected 228 works that are representative or the Portuguese art scene and of a generation of artists who value interdisciplinarity. The three pillars emerging from the collection – Festivity. Fury. Femina – dialogue with each other, generating either semantic partnerships or meaning-producing tensions, in an exhibition that conjures the performativity that inheres in contemporary artistic practices while highlighting the feminine dimension. The exhibition also features more than 25 recently acquired works (late 2019-2020) which reflect the cross-cutting nature that the exhibition seeks to address.

Wednesday to Monday from 11 am to 7 pm
