Enzo Cucchi

Enzo Cucchi, one of the most defining international artists of the last five decades, was one of the unavoidable references of the neo-expressionist art that emerged in Italy at the beginning of the 1980s. The relevance of his proposals earned him a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1986 when he was just 36 years old. That this relevance remains today is a faithful testimony to the uniqueness of his work and how fertile his territory remains nowadays.

Mezzo cane brings together a wide selection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings that Cucchi created over the last decade. Its distribution in space resembles a score: empty spaces are silences of a polyphonic and operatic composition.

Enzo Cucchi’s work maintains an intimate relationship with writing and in particular with poetry. Book covers, brochures, catalogues, and other printed materials were gathered in a gigantic showcase, comprising a great presentation of this facet of the artist’s work.

Complementing Mezzo cane, Culturgest also presents the exhibition Il Libraio e L’artista, where the materials gathered allow us to assess a less known, but no less significant, side of Cucchi’s work, offering us at the same time an image of the constellation of authors who gravitate around his singular universe.
