Eduardo Batarda, an essential artist in the contemporary art criticism and renewal process that took place in Portugal from the 1960s onwards, began to develop from an early age an oeuvre that rejected simplistic affiliations and offered a critical, skeptical, ironic, absurd and humorous look at everything that surrounded him. Curated by João Mourão and Luís Silva, ‘ Great Moments. Eduardo Batarda In the 1970s ‘ showcases works from that decade – almost exclusively based on ‘inferior’ techniques and materials, such as watercolor and India ink – which adopt a clearly antagonistic and disruptive stance towards the forms and discourses considered relevant at the time.
