In April 2022, Norwegian art-pop singer Aurora read a letter from indigenous activists calling for a collective response to global warming. The profound impression this letter left in the singer led her to create this new album’s title, What Happened to the Heart?, and concept.

The album reflects the singer’s personal struggles and healing process, moving from vulnerability to strength. It addresses themes such as feminine strength, grief, the disconnect between heart and mind, and also climate changes and capitalism. It features diverse musical influences and collaborators, mixing primitive and modern sounds.
