Armenians and Jerusalem

This exhibition highlights the importance of Jerusalem to Armenians and vice versa. It displays newly found archives from the 1930s pertaining to the construction of the Gulbenkian Library within the Armenian Patriarchate, and Calouste Gulbenkian’s links to the city.

More broadly, it explores issues of cultural heritage in diaspora, the relationship between church and identity, as well as current dynamics and cultural practices related to saghimahays (Jerusalemite Armenians). The exhibition will be accompanied by a book launch and a seminar.
