Gulbenkian Choir a cappella

Considered one of the choral masterpieces of the 20th century, Alfred Schnittke’s Choir Concerto is a score for extended choir, with music imagined accompanying the words of the Book of Lamentations, a mystical poem written by the Armenian monk and poet St Gregory of Narek. Schnittke worked on the concert in 1984 and 1985, when, having been baptised, he closely observed ecclesiastical rituals. In this first concert of the a cappella series, the Gulbenkian Choir will be conducted by Inês Tavares Lopes.
