The National Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Lisbon opens its doors for the first time to a global intervention that aims to engage with the museum as a whole over a period of four and a half months. Empty spaces between ladders is the first solo exhibition by Italian artist Marco Fedele di Catrano, currently living in Lisbon, in a Portuguese museum, resulting from his artistic residency there.

The artist, when confronted with different spaces of the museum, establishes a continuous, dynamic and procedural thread between the interior and the exterior, between the city and the museum. The idea of inhabiting the Museum is the Leitmotiv of the exhibition. In addition to photographs, videos, and paintings, the exhibition features various materials collected from buildings in Lisbon before they were demolished, which are reused and contextualized within the building’s architecture in a site-specific installation.
