Terra Nullius
Terra Nullius was a term created by international law to define territories that belonged to no one and could therefore be occupied. There are still some Terra Nullius territories today, such as Bir Tawill (a strip of land between Egypt and Sudan), Antarctica, international waters, and the Moon. But Terra Nullius holds a poetic meaning, too. The idea of an unexplored territory, a kind of oasis of freedom where it would be possible to start over and rethink our notion of society.
Paula Diogo spent a year in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she developed a project that sought to capture an ‘experience of the place’ by intermingling it with personal and collective narratives. To do this, she made use of two simple activities: walking and writing. Terra Nullius includes a show that goes beyond the theater space, occupying the city’s urban geography as well as the virtual space of debate and thought.
The show starts by the river Tagus, 400 meters from Lux Frágil, and ends at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. Meeting point here.
