Memovolts
Stories from the EDP Foundation Energy Heritage Collection
Launched in 1990, the EDP Foundation Energy Heritage Collection brings together about 3500 pieces and a vast archival collection focusing on energy and, more specifically, electricity – items whose origins date back to the former companies that gave rise to EDP and which span the entire 20th century. The collection comprises objects for domestic, personal and industrial use, including machinery and equipment – measuring instruments, home appliances, lighting and laboratory equipment – as well as advertising leaflets, photographs, and catalogs.
This vast and valuable repository is the subject matter of Memovolts – Stories from the EDP Foundation Energy Heritage Collection, a presentation of the collection specifically designed for maat Mode 2020. Throughout this program seven thematic selections are displayed on a ‘mobile staging structure’ which is part of Beeline, the architectural project designed by New York-based studio SO-IL to host maat Mode.
