In Memory of Gaëtan
A donation by Eduardo Ferreira Massano
There is a new exhibition to see in the Átrio 9 de Abril of Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, thanks to a donation from Eduardo Ferreira Massano. These are five pieces from Gaëtan’s personal collection which are now part of the Museum’s collection. The works were donated this year, in fulfillment of the will and memory of Gaëtan Lampo Martins de Oliveira (1944-2019), one of the main figures in the plastic arts of Portugal in the second half of the 20th century. Works that are now on display to the public include an oil painting on canvas, Landscape with Knights, by Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668), pen-and-paper drawing, Architectural Note with Fountain, attributed to Giuseppe Galli Bibiena (1696-1757), the pieces St. Michael Archangel and the Bust of an Angel, two wooden sculptures, and the Flagellation of Christ, a remarkable bronze sculptural group based on the model by the Italian Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654).
