Einstein on the Beach
Philip Glass
Philip Glass, Suzanne Vega, Ictus Ensemble, Collegium Vocale Gent and Germaine Kruip collaborated to create a concerto version of Glass’s 1976 opera Einstein on the Beach, one of the high points of his career. This approach to a key work of minimalism focuses on the performance and musical exploration of the words in the libretto, elevated by sophisticated sound design and the unmistakable voice of Suzanne Vega as narrator. Visual artist Germaine Kruip has created the stage set, which resembles a contemporary art installation, bringing the stage closer to the audience. A new and exciting way to enjoy Glass’s opera.
Opera in four acts, based on a concept by Robert Wilson and Philip Glass (concert version).
